Boxwood Shrubs

Boxwood shrubs are a common sight in home gardens and commercial landscaping projects all over the world. In fact, you can find them at Versailles in France, Mount Vernon and the White House. These easy-to-care-for shrubs can be used in a myriad of ways, with a long history as decorative plants prized for use as shaped hedges, topiaries, screens, walkway borders, bonsai and shaped container plants.

Luckily, boxwoods are easy to introduce to your landscaping and require little maintenance. They prefer full-sun to part-shade, but their shallow roots need to be protected from the heat, so maintain a layer of mulch three inches thick around each plant. Also, make sure to water appropriately. For the first two years, boxwoods require deep, weekly watering. Mature plants thrive with a deep watering every two to four weeks.
